Vinvolved - Radio For Change

Here at Express FM we’re delighted to have linked up with youth volunteering charity V (www.vinvolved.com) who have chosen to fund Express FM to inspire, recruit and deliver hundreds of volunteer opportunities within radio for 16 – 25 year over the next 3 years.

It’s a great opportunity for the station really “ramming” home our commitment to getting young people on the airwaves and it’s brilliant chance for you as a young person to get your voice heard – what really matters to you? What are your passions? What are your concerns?

So how can you get involved- what’s it all about?

Over the next 3 years Express FM is offering young people aged 16 – 25 the opportunity to get involved in a radio taster workshops called “Radio For Change”. You will be trained how to plan, make and present your own radio show and then it will be broadcast on 93.7 Express FM.

To get involved is simple - are you a group of friends who like the idea of getting on the airwaves, are you part of a youth club, school, college, community group, a group of young mums or dads – it really is open to anyone who wants to get their voice head and on the airwaves.

Express FM will be delivering 1 – 2 workshops a week, usually to a group of around 6 – 7 young people. It really is your chance to catch the “Radio Bug” , by volunteering for an Express FM taster session, you really can make a difference and be part of “Radio For change”

BEST OF ALL, IT'S ABSOLUTELY FREE!

"We have been really fortunate to link up with Express FM for our volunteering project at The Portsmouth Foyer. Encouraging the young people we work with to find an activity that interests and engages them has been tough going, but visiting the radio station to take part in a workshop and record a programme has been a great success. Young people enter The Foyer because they have become homeless for various reasons and nearly all are not in employment, education or training. Many have experienced fairly chaotic lifestyles and many do not even have a particular interest or hobby, which makes finding them volunteering which excites them extremely difficult. However, nearly all young people are enthusiastic about the prospect of visiting a radio station and producing their own programme. We are also very impressed by the way Darren, Mark and Adrian have handled often very difficult individuals and have helped them produce an outcome to be proud of. As well as the regular workshops for small groups, one particular resident has had the chance to attend twice weekly and take part in live broadcasts. This has given him real interest and purpose over the last couple of months and has boosted his self confidence greatly. We would like to thank Express FM and their staff for all their support which has provided a lot of fun, a new experience and a great sense of achievement for a group of young people who really need it." Julia Munday, Portsmouth Housing Association.
