Collective Artistes
A professional theatre company, that has community-spirited projects through "theatre for development" as one of its aims - which encourages and empowers people to change their lives. So there is a voluntary element in there and certainly a community spirited one, which are definitely reasons enough to cover it as part of The Volunteering Show!
COLLECTIVE ARTISTES Premiers a UK tour of "THE AFRICAN COMPANY PRESENTS RICHARD III". Performed at the New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth recent and around the country with final performances at the Oval House Theatre, Oval, London on Tuesday 17 March and Wednesday 18 March 2009.
"Forty years before Lincoln abolished slavery and fifty years before Black Americans could vote, the African Company of New York were putting on plays in downtown Manhattan. Aware of prejudices from the Upper Classes of the White community and with their own internal issues, tensions arise when the African Company prepare to stage Richard III and relocate to a hotel next door to the Park Theatre, the very place a fiercely competitive white-owned theatre company are preparing for their own version of the same production, Richard III."
