Andy Chandler from Walk The Island appeared on Express FM on Monday evening to reveal The Roberts Centre as the supporters charity set to benefit from this year's fundraising.
On Saturday the 28th of June, the annual Walk The Island event will be embarking on the 14-mile trek around Portsea Island to raise vital funds for their chosen charity for 2025, The Roberts Centre.
100 participants will be taking on the challenge in support of The Roberts Centre, an organisation dedicated to improving the lives of families and individuals facing homelessness, abuse or other challenges, through their comprehensive support services.
In order to help The Roberts Centre continue to deliver their broad range of services and reach as many families as possible, the money raised from this year's event will go towards facilitating the purchase of a new minivan!
The charity has a reputation for developing innovative responses to families who are struggling to improve difficult circumstances. Situations such as debt, parenting difficulties, co-parenting, managing money, lifestyle changes, mental health battles and those living with learning difficulties are all supported by The Roberts Centre.
Walk The Island's latest newsletter reads: "In 2025, our objective is to raise funds to purchase a multi-purpose minivan which can replace the current transit van, which is on its last legs (tyres...). The new multi-purpose van will play a vital role in delivering these services, ensuring that families and individuals receive the support they need.
"The van will be used for a wide range of essential tasks, including carrying out maintenance in properties, transporting furniture and white goods to families moving into new homes, collecting and delivering donations, and moving supplies between different locations.
"It will also be instrumental in supporting community events, delivering food bank supplies and assisting with urgent situations where families require immediate assistance.
"A new van will ensure that this level of service can continue, helping families transition into stable accommodation and improving their quality of life. This vehicle is not just a mode of transport but it is also a crucial tool in making a lasting difference in the community."
