Pompey have today completed loan signing of Di’Shon Bernard from Manchester United until the end of the season.
The 22-year-old can play at right-back and as a right-sided centre back.
Bernard had been part of the Manchester United youth setup since the age of 16, joining The Red Devils in 2017 after previously excelling in the Chelsea academy.
He becomes the Blues’ 3rd signing of the January transfer window, following the arrivals of Ryley Towler and Matt Macey earlier in the month.
Di'Shon Bernard made his professional United debut in November 2019, featuring in a UEFA Europa League Group Stage game against Kazakhstani side FC Astana.
Since then, the defender has enjoyed 2 successful loan spells at Salford City (2020/21) and more recently Hull City (2021/22). Bernard has 26 Championship games under his belt from his time spent with Hull last season.
It was reported last summer that West Ham United were interested in securing his signature for a permanent move, however nothing materialised.
Portsmouth boss John Mousinho told club officials: "Di'Shon is a fantastic young player with a great pedigree behind him.
"He also has first team experience from his previous loan spells, including in the Championship, so we know what he can do.
"It was someone we didn't think we were going to be able to bring in, so we're really pleased to have him here.
"He's very quick and athletic, and likes to play on the front foot. He's also someone who is comfortable on the ball and composed.
"Di'Shon doesn't mind carrying it out from the back and has had that grounding at Manchester United, where the demand is to do just that.
"But he's also got that defensive ability that you need and for a 22-year-old, is very mature. We're excited to get him in the building." - The Blues head coach concluded..
