The Blues have revealed 24-year-old Jordan Williams as the club's first signing back in the Championship.
It has been reported by numerous sources that Pompey have had to fend off interest from the likes of Cardiff City and West Bromwich Albion for the defender's signature.
Williams arrives on a 3-year-deal from League One outfit Barnsley, for whom he made 47 appearances in 2023/24.
The former Tykes captain arrives at Fratton Park as the club's first summer signing and, at present, only out-and-out right-back. This follows the departure of Joe Rafferty, who has since signed for Rotherham United, and Portsmouth FC's decision not to extend Zak Swanson's contract at PO4.
Blues boss John Mousinho told club media: "Jordan has plenty of experience already, despite his relatively young age, with a lot of games under his belt.
"A lot of those have been in the Championship and he's captained Barnsley as well, so has those important leadership qualities.
"We're getting a right-back who's defensively solid, while also possessing some exciting attacking attributes.
"There's so much potential there and we're delighted to be able to bring Jordan to Fratton Park as our first signing of the summer."
Jordan Williams came through the ranks at Huddersfield Town and turned pro in 2017, though made just 1 senior appearance for the club in a League Cup tie with Rochdale before being shipped out on loan to Bury in League One for the remainder of the campaign.
Williams was sold to Barnsley in 2018 where he had remained ever since, making 201 appearances and scoring 9 goals. He even became captain for The Tykes in 2023/24 but was unable to achieve a 2nd promotion with the club, who fell short at the Play-Off Semi-Final stage.
Twice has the full-back represented the England Under-18s following 6 appearances for the Under-17s in 2015.
