29-year-old Jamaica international Isaac Hayden has signed for the Blues on loan from Premier League Newcastle United.
Hayden will wear the number 18 shirt during his time with Portsmouth.
Pompey boss John Mousinho said: "Isaac is a central midfielder who has a wealth of experience in the Premier League and Championship.
"He's extremely comfortable with the ball at his feet and is also very strong defensively, possessing a lot of the attributes we were looking for.
"But he's also a leader both on and off the pitch, so we're delighted to be able to add him to the squad for the rest of the season."
The midfielder has made a total of 171 appearances for Newcastle, scoring 7 goals in all competitions.
Loan spells are something Hayden is familiar with, spending time in recent seasons with Norwich City, Standard Liege and Queens Park Rangers.
He has been capped twice at senior level by Jamaica despite having originally played for England at youth level.
