Promotion And League Title Confirmed For Portsmouth Women

With Hashtag United dropping points in their game away at Ipswich Town, Pompey Women have been promoted to the Barclays Women's Championship.

Hashtag were defeated by 2 goals to nil away at Ipswich Town on Sunday (April 14th), meaning that the Portsmouth Women have had their fate sealed this afternoon without needing to kick a ball.

Jay Sadler's side sit top of the FA Women's National League - Southern Premier Division table having accrued 55 points from their 20 matches so far with 18 wins, 1 draw and just 1 defeat. The Blues have scored 73 league goals and have let in just 7, resulting in a mammoth goal difference of +66.

Take a listen to what head coach Jay Sadler had to say to Express FM's Jake Smith the day after promotion was sealed for his side:

Next Sunday (April 21st), Portsmouth travel to Cheltenham Town for their penultimate game of the season but the result of that game will not matter in terms of their position in the league with Hashtag now 9 points behind with just 2 fixtures remaining.

Pompey's final home match of the campaign takes place at Westleigh Park on Sunday the 2nd of May, where the team is expected to hold aloft the league trophy in front of their own supporters.

Congratulations to everybody involved at the Portsmouth Women!
