Portsmouth Women head coach Jay Sadler sits down with Jake Smith ahead of this weekend’s clash with Southampton.
The Blues travel to St Mary’s on Saturday (March 22nd) evening for a 5:30pm kick-off in the Barclays Women’s Championship.
Jay Sadler’s side go into the game off the back of successive league victories, beating Sheffield United 2-0 at Bramall Lane before returning to Fratton Park to claim a 2-1 win over Sunderland last weekend.
Whilst Pompey have moved up to 9th in the table, Southampton have suffered a poor run of form recently, falling to 8th after 8 league games without a win.
In the 2 meetings between Portsmouth and their bitter rivals Southampton so far this season, it’s unfortunately the latter who have the better record, winning both matches with an aggregate scoreline of 9-0.
The previous clash at Westleigh Park back in November saw Southampton claim a 4-0 victory in the Group Stage of the League Cup thanks to a hattrick from Emma Thompson.
The striker is now on loan at Portsmouth so will not be a concern on Saturday, however also won’t be eligible to play against her parent club.
Blues boss Jay Sadler spoke with Express FM’s Jake Smith ahead of the game:
