Following a thrilling 3-3 draw at Elland Road, the Blues’ Championship journey has well and truly started, however now, attention turns to the Carabao Cup.
John Mousinho’s side took the lead twice on Saturday with both of those goals coming from Callum Lang, although a late strike from the hosts saw Pompey walk away with just the point on the opening day of the league season.
Next up we’re back on home soil and for the first time this campaign at Fratton Park.
MANAGER
Former Millwall striker Neil Harris is the man in the dugout.
As a player, Harris was Millwall’s all-time top scorer with 138 goals in all competitions, breaking the previous record held by Teddy Sheringham.
He also played for the likes of Cambridge City, Cardiff City, Nottingham Forest, Gillingham and Southend United.
After retiring from the game in June 2013, Harris took up a coaching role at Millwall and was confirmed as permanent manager of the club in April 2015.
Harris also managed Cardiff, Gillingham and Cambridge before making his return to The Den as head coach on an 18-month contract in February.
The Lions were then 21st in the Championship, 1 point above the relegation zone. Under Harris, the club recorded 26 points from 13 games to finish 13th in the table.
ONE TO WATCH
Our one to watch is number 22, Aidomo Emakhu.
Emakhu started his professional career at Shamrock Rovers but in December 2022, it was announced that he would join Millwall.
He was initially assigned to the club’s Under-23 team but trained with the first team.
The 20-year-old has also played for the Republic of Ireland at Under-19 and Under-21 levels.
TOP SCORER
The current top goalscorer for The Lions is Duncan Watmore.
Watmore started his youth career at Manchester United but was released at the age of 12. He went on to join Altrincham’s youth side at the age of 16.
After his senior career at Altrincham he joined Sunderland, making 71 appearances and scoring 5 goals. Watmore signed for Middlesbrough in 2020 and there he managed 21 goals in 92 appearances.
Last season, the forward scored 4 league goals from 34 games.
He has scored 2 goals this season already and wears the number 19 shirt.
