Pompey Live’s Kirsty Roxanne delves deeper into the Blues’ next Championship opponent.
The Blues have confirmed Championship football for another season after a 1-0 victory over Watford.
With 2 games left to play before the end of the season, the penultimate matchday takes us to Hillsborough, where Sheffield Wednesday play the role of the hosts.
MANAGER
Danny Röhl is in the dugout for The Owls.
Röhl was appointed for his first managerial stint in October 2023.
Last season, Wednesday finished in 20th place, having steadied the ship in the months that ensued, Röhl oversaw 4 wins and 2 draws in the last 6 games to secure second tier survival.
Following the conclusion of his debut season, Röhl signed a new contract at Wednesday until 2027.
ONE TO WATCH
Our one to watch is Djeidi Gassama.
Coming up through the youth ranks at PSG, he made his professional debut in a 4-0 win over Montpellier in May 2022, featuring alongside Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.
Gassama signed a permanent deal for The Owls in August 2023. His first goal came on New Year's Day in 2024 against Hull from 25 yards out.
The number 41 French youth international has 7 goals and 1 assist this season.
TOP SCORER
Josh Windass is the top goalscorer for the club with 12 goals so far this season
Windass first moved to Hillsborough on loan from Wigan Athletic during the 2019/20 season, becoming a key part in The Owls’ attacking lineup and earning himself a permanent move.
He scored a crucial goal in the dying embers of the League One Play-Off Final against Barnsley to gain promotion to the Championship.
In January 2025, Windass scored from his own half against Derby County, which earned him the Championship Goal of the Month award.
The attacking midfielder wears the number 11 shirt.
CURRENT FORM
After 44 matches, Danny Röhl’s side have accumulated 56 points - Only 4 points and 3 places ahead of the Blues in 16th.
Since losing 1-0 against rivals Sheffield United, The Owls hit a run of bad form, only picking up 2 points out of a possible 15.
They did however pick up their first win since March the 11th against Middlesbrough on Easter Monday.
With survival confirmed, can the Blues continue to kick on and strive for a top half finish?
Find out and catch all of the unmissable action when Pompey Live returns this Saturday (April 26th) afternoon from 2pm - Jake Smith will be on air with Kirsty Roxanne in the Steel City.
Kick-off: 3pm!
