We take a closer look at the Blues' next Championship opponent.
A trip to the midlands is on the cards for Portsmouth this weekend off the back of consecutive wins on home soil - West Bromwich Albion the challenge ahead at The Hawthorns.
MANAGER
Tony Mowbray will be back in the dugout at The Hawthorns this weekend to lead West Bromwich Albion out on home soil for the first time in 14-and-a-half years.
Mowbray’s first stint with the club lasted nearly 3 years between 2006 and 2009, during that time he took them back up to the Premier League and to an FA Cup Semi-Final, only to be beaten by eventual winners Portsmouth.
He has already overseen 1 West Brom game since his emotional return but that was away at Middlesbrough in midweek.
The 61-year-old was out of the game for almost 12 months before coming back into management as he was receiving treatment for bowel cancer, which was diagnosed just 8 games into his tenure as Birmingham City boss in early 2024.
ONE TO WATCH
21-year-old new signing Isaac Price could provide the Blues some problems this weekend.
The midfielder arrived for an undisclosed fee from Belgian Pro League side Standard Liège on Wednesday and signed a 4-and-a-half year deal.
Price was a product of the Everton academy after being scouted at the age of 7 and now represents Northern Ireland at senior level, having gone through all of their youth ranks from Under-16.
TOP SCORER
With 12 league strikes to his name so far this season, former Sunderland, Bordeaux and Fulham forward Josh Maja is currently West Brom’s leading scorer.
The 26-year-old also ranks 2nd for goals scored by any player in the whole of the Championship, behind only Norwich winger Borja Sainz, who has 15.
Maja has however missed The Baggies’ last 3 games after picking up a leg injury at the start of January.
CURRENT FORM
West Brom have drawn more games than anyone else in the division, having already recorded 14 in 28 matches this season.
As a result of that, along with 9 wins and 5 defeats, The Baggies occupy 7th position in the Championship and are just 1 point adrift of the Play-Off places.
In 13 games, West Brom have only been beaten once on home soil this season and in their most recent fixture, Tony Mowbray’s first back in charge, they were beaten 2-0 at Middlesbrough on Tuesday evening.
Can the Blues finally win an away game for what would be the first time since October 19th?
Find out by tuning in to Pompey Live this Saturday (January 25th) afternoon from 2pm - Jake Smith will be joined at The Hawthorns by Ryan Honey and James Wilson to provide full coverage of the game.
Kick-off: 3pm!
