Appeal after man assaulted in Portsmouth cinema

Officers are appealing for information after a 49-year-old man suffered serious injuries during an assault in Portsmouth.

At some time between 2.20pm and 2.35pm on Saturday, 27 October the victim was at Vue cinema, Gunwharf Quays, watching Bohemian Rhapsody in Screen 11.

A large group of teenagers, without tickets, rushed into the cinema. They began shouting abuse at the people watching the film. The victim approached them and informed them he was going to get them ejected when he was subjected to a violent assault by some members of the group. He was kicked and punched to the head, body and face.

Members of staff managed to eject the group who then ran away from the building. The man suffered a fracture to his left shoulder which may require surgery, as well as cuts and bruises.

Detective Constable Pete Bambury, said: “I would like to speak to anyone who saw these youths in the cinema or witnessed the assault. t would have been obvious if you were at the film as the youths went to the front of the screen and shouted abuse during the screening of the film. We have also been told that people may have helped the injured man. If you have any information that could help, please contact us on 101 quoting 44180404200.”
