Dance Live! launches new ‘Studio Edition’ for Dance Schools

Following the overwhelming success of its Dance Live! competition for schools and colleges and in response to growing demand, The Guildhall Trust is delighted to announce a ‘Studio Edition’ of its popular event, especially for dance schools, studios and youth dance companies.

In a showcase competition, choreographing their routines to the backdrop of a giant digital LED screen following the lead of programmes like BBC’s ‘Greatest Dancer’, ITV’s ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ and NBC’s ‘World of Dance’, dancers aged 7-18 are invited to compete and have their performances critiqued by a panel of professional judges who have all worked within the stage industry. Past Dance Live! judges have included Mark Smith of Deaf Men Dancing and Patron of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing.

Each dance school, studio or youth dance company can enter group dances (minimum 15, maximum 25 dancers) to a Junior event aimed at 7-11 year olds on Saturday 24th April 2021 or Seniors aimed at those aged 12-18 on Sunday 25th April 2021, to be performed on the stage of Portsmouth’s iconic Guildhall.

Dance Live! Studio Edition will proceed adhering to all Government guidelines with a range of ‘Covid Safety’ measures in place at the ‘We’re Good to Go’ certified venue including social distancing, limited capacities, temperature checks, sanitisation and enhanced cleaning procedures throughout, with groups also provided guidance on how they can create their performance in accordance with the current guidelines.

Dance schools, studios and youth dance companies from across Portsmouth, Hampshire, IOW and the wider region are required to submit an ‘Expression of Interest’ to participate in the event by 5pm, Friday 18th December 2020. As long as there is sufficient interest to proceed, the event will be confirmed and formal registration opened in January.

Dance Live! Studio Edition Producer, Cherry Lambert said, “Since we launched Dance Live! in 2019 we have been approached by a number of dance schools in the region who are attracted by the different format of the event and the challenge choreographing to a giant digital LED screen would present to their dancers. With so many competitive dance events cancelled this year we have worked hard to ensure we can deliver Dance Live! Studio Edition in a ‘Covid Safe’ way in 2021 and ensure young dancers have the opportunity to return to competition”.
