New analysis of the latest ONS figures has revealed that average house prices in Gosport have risen the most in Hampshire compared to five years ago.
The study by A-Plan Insurance compared the average price of a house in February 2016 to February 2021, across more than 400 areas of the UK.
At the top of the list in Hampshire was Gosport, where the average price has jumped by 27.34% in comparison to five years ago. The average in February 2016 was £180,259.72, while in February this year it stood at £229,538.86.
Despite the considerable jump in value, Gosport still has the third-lowest average house price in Hampshire.
The lowest average house price in Hampshire is found in Portsmouth, which also had the second-highest increase between February 2016 and 2021. The average in the city has gone from £184,458.98 to £223,312.77, a jump of 21.06%.
Southampton’s average house price is just fractionally higher than in Portsmouth, standing at £223,502.71 in February 2021, up from £186,126.51 five years before. That is an increase of 20.08%, the third highest on the list.
Taking into account the whole county, Hampshire’s average house price has gone from £285,319.20 in February 2016, to £332,225.73 in February 2021. The increase of 16.44% puts Hampshire’s average house price at more than £80,000 higher than the UK average.
Across the UK, the average house price in February 2016 was £205,555, while the latest figure stands at £250,340 – an increase of 21.78%.
Comparing the four nations of the UK, Wales has seen the biggest increase in average house price over the past five years – 26% - going from £142,711 in 2016, to £179,860 in 2021.
Northern Ireland showed a 24.18% increase, with the average price rising from £118,850 to £147,592 England’s average house price has gone from £220,626, to £268,291 – an increase of 21.6%. Scotland has seen the lowest rise, 19.98%, as the average cost of a house in 2016 was £134,625, compared to £161,529 now.
