Portsmouth Hospitals Charity is urging supporters of the charity, NHS Staff and members of the local community to raise a cuppa for the NHS’s birthday on Friday 5 July and join the nationwide NHS Big Tea celebrations.
From 1-7 July individuals, organisations and local businesses are encouraged to hold their own NHS Big Tea celebration in aid of Portsmouth Hospitals Charity and raise money for a ward or department close to their heart. Thousands of tea parties are set to take place across the country as the nation comes together to mark the NHS’s birthday. To take part in the NHS Big Tea, local participants will have the opportunity to hold their own fabulous tea party and raise money by asking for a donation to their chosen area within Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, which includes local hospital; Queen Alexandra Hospital.
Ruth May, Chief Nursing Officer for England, said: “NHS charities provide much-needed support for patients. This in turn enables staff to take care of people when they need it the most. It would be great if everyone across the country came together on 5 July to raise a cuppa for the NHS.”
To celebrate the launch of this year’s NHS Big Tea campaign on Thursday 13 June, TV’s Dr Ranj was joined by his Strictly Come Dancing co-star Charles Venn and some of his former St George’s colleagues on the hospital’s helipad in Tooting, south west London, for a special tea party event.
Dr Ranj Singh said: “By hosting a tea party, you can raise money for NHS charities and show your support for their incredible work.”
A tea party may seem like simple thing to organise but the money raised through the NHS Big Tea to support Portsmouth Hospitals Charity will have a big impact on future patients. All money raised will help to purchase state-of-the-art equipment, fund improvements to the hospital environment and facilities, as well as provide funding for specialist staff training.
Portsmouth Hospitals Charity will be holding their own NHS Big Tea celebration on 5 July 12-2pm at the QuAD Centre, Queen Alexandra Hospital for members of the public, hospital visitors and patients. There will be refreshments including tea, coffee and various cakes and treats, as well as a raffle with lots of fantastic prizes on offer! There will be entertainment throughout the event from local ukulele band ‘Pompey Pluckers’ and choir Quay of the Sea Voices.
