Live ballet comes to the Big Screen in Guildhall Square on Wednesday 7 June, from 7pm. It's the first of three live BP Big Screens Royal Opera events in June and July.
The 7th June screening features the Royal Ballet in three of the greatest works by its founder Frederick Ashton.
The Dream is an enchanting dance adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, a breath-taking abstract work celebrating the beauty of pure movement. Symphonic Variations is Ashton’s first masterpiece; while Marguerite and Armand, inspired by Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev, is a tragic love story.
The other two screenings are of the operas La Traviata (4 July at 7pm) and Turandot (14 July at 7.30pm).
Viewers are encouraged to bring picnics and something to keep them warm.
The council will be providing limited seating, available on a first-come first-served basis. The screenings are rated 12a.
