Portsmouth College shortlisted for two prestigious awards

Portsmouth College is delighted to announce today that they have been nominated for not one but two national Times Educational Supplement Awards for excellence in further education!

The College has been shortlisted in the ‘Outstanding Use of Technology for Improving Teaching, Learning and Assessment’ and the ‘Best Teaching and Learning Initiative’ categories.

The outstanding use of technology nomination relates to their creative and innovative use of iPads, which sees all 16 - 18 learners, teachers and support staff using them to enhance their teaching and learning. After recently winning an Association of Colleges Beacon Award for this initiative, they are immensely proud to have been acknowledged once again. The TES nomination is further evidence of just how transformational their approach to teaching, learning and assessment is.

The ‘Best Teaching and Learning Initiative’ nomination reflects the College’s’ five year programme of innovation, which led them to be a very high quality provider of post-16 education for the city and its surrounding area. The initiative is based on key strategies to improve success such as the iPad project, a radical new timetable with a 10 am start and just two lessons a day, and an ‘E6’ programme of work experience and employability skills which extends students’ academic study, preparing them for their next steps after college.

College Principal, Steve Frampton, is delighted to have received these nominations:

“To be nominated for two Times Educational Supplement Awards is absolutely brilliant. It reflects all the fantastic work by all our staff, students and governors over a number of years. It confirms just how good a college we now are. I am thrilled with this recognition in the FE sector.”

“All the innovation and creativity in the College over the past five years has enabled us to improve student outcomes year on year so that they are now above national and sixth-form college benchmarks for the vast majority of our learners.”

The College looks forward to February where they find out if they walk away with the trophy at the TES Awards Ceremony in London.
