Radical refurbishment begins at Hayling Island Skatepark

Hayling Island skatepark is set to undergo a major refurbishment, with work starting on Monday 27 June.

Funds for the project have been successfully secured through partnership working between Havant Borough Council and community user group The Hayling Skatepark Project to ensure the new design will ‘kick turn’ the park into one that is suitable for all.
Designed by Maverick Industries Limited, the modernised skatepark will have separate sections with a variety of heights and transitions which allow users to develop their skills and provide obstacles designed so they can progress their skills.

Replacing the old existing metal and wooden ramps will be a new concrete structure that will include quarter pipes, pockets, roll overs, driveways, curbs and other obstacles suitable for all abilities.

Councillor Gwen Robinson, Cabinet Lead for Affordable Housing, Communities and CIL, said “This is going to be a fantastic facility in the borough that I am sure will become very popular in the skateboarding community.

“We know from working with the user group that excellent facilities like this are often travelled to from far and wide.  This refurbishment will soon see a thriving skate scene re-established at the park providing accessible, progressive, and a fun provision that will benefit all.

Skateboarders will be able to ‘Drop in’ once the work is completed in September, during this time the skatepark will remain closed.

Funding for this project has been secured from; Havant Borough Council, The Veolia Environmental Trust, Section 106 contributions, community fundraising, the Fat Face Foundation, Hayling Lions and other generous funders.
