Rapid Community Testing for Covid-19 coming soon to Fareham

Fareham Borough Council is preparing to introduce rapid community testing for people with no coronavirus symptoms, but who need to leave home for work, from the week commencing 22 February.

A total of 11 community testing sites are to be opened throughout Hampshire and Fareham College has been selected as the community testing site for the Borough.

The scheme is by appointment only and is aimed at residents who travel regularly outside their home for work and who are not covered by an existing workplace testing scheme.

The scheme is being delivered by Hampshire County Council in partnership with district councils and the Department of Health and Social Care and will run for an initial six-week period.

Executive Member for Health and Public Protection, Cllr Trevor Cartwright said: “The introduction of free rapid community testing is a significant step in our fight against coronavirus. I encourage anyone who is eligible for the scheme to get tested regularly to ensure that we identify positive cases more quickly. We are working closely with Hampshire County Council to plan the roll out and ensure that stringent safety measures are in place at the Fareham College site to prevent any possible spread of the virus.”

Anyone experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, or a loss or change to their sense of smell or taste should not attend a community testing site, but instead book a test at nhs.uk/coronavirus or by calling 119.

Confirmation of exactly when rapid community testing will get underway at Fareham College will be announced both on the Council’s website and social media channels, as soon as everything is place.  In the meantime  further information, including how to book a test, can be found at: https://www.hants.gov.uk/testing-no-symptoms
