The new home of Pompey in the Community will benefit from considerably cheaper, greener energy - thanks to a six-figure donation from a Hampshire company.

The almost-built John Jenkins Stadium in Moneyfield Avenue is to become the charity’s permanent home, providing a base for its sport, education, health, inclusion, and disability projects.

Building work is nearing competition, and a large solar array has already been installed courtesy of long-term partner Utilita.

The energy supplier has paid for and facilitated the entire solar project, which is expected to cut energy costs of the site by more than 60% per year.

James Heyes, Head of Group Partnerships at Utilita, said:

"Pompey in the Community is a phenomenal charity - I’ve closely seen the work they do for years now as our partnership has blossomed.

"The entire organisation is so focused on supporting everyone else, it’s nice to do something for them.

"While Utilita has deals across football at every level, our passion remains at the very bedrock of the Beautiful Game – the grassroots community and aspiring youngsters.

"The John Jenkins Stadium will be a fantastic base for this brilliant charity, football and so much more. I’m just glad Utilita could play a small part in what has been a tremendous community effort."

Pompey in the Community, the charitable arm of Portsmouth Football Club, will use the new facility to serve more than 36,000 individuals each year through its various initiatives.

Clare Martin MBE, CEO of Pompey in the Community, said:

"I would like to thank Utilita for their invaluable contribution to the John Jenkins stadium.

"Utilita's commitment to sustainability has been instrumental in helping make our community hub a reality.

"The installation of solar panels at the Stadium will not only reduce our environmental footprint but will also serve as a model for eco-friendly initiatives in our region.

"Solar panels will allow us to lower our energy costs significantly, which, in turn, will enable us to allocate more resources to our community programmes and initiatives.

"The John Jenkins Stadium will not just be a place for football; it will be a vibrant community hub that hosts a wide range of events and activities, from youth sports to cultural events and educational workshops.

"Utilita's support will help us create a welcoming and sustainable space where our community can come together, grow, and thrive."

Named after D-Day veteran and life-long Pompey fan, the John Jenkins Stadium is in the final stages of construction with volunteers chipping in to complete the last features.

Working in partnership with Moneyfields FC, the site has been developed to facilitate more than just football, featuring all-weather pitches, a multi-use games area, a dance/yoga studio, boxing facilities, a community cafe, classrooms and more.

The solar array is to be officially unveiled today (Friday 3 November) by representatives of Utilita and Pompey in the Community.
