Portsmouth University students organise Memorial Match for former student Rob Harris and raise over £2000 for young people with cancer.
Students from Portsmouth University Football club organised the fifth Rob Harris Memorial Match in memory of the former member of their club, who very sadly passed away in 2014 from prostate cancer.
To celebrate Rob’s life, the charity football match consisted of the teams: Rob Harris vs University Portsmouth Football Club Old Boys. The club did a fantastic job of raising £2047 for Rob’s family chosen charity, CLIC Sargent. The charity fights tirelessly for young lives with cancer, providing emotional, practical, financial and clinical support to the whole family.
The exciting game ended with a 3-2 score to the Old Boys. The evening didn’t end there, but a raffle and auction with fabulous prizes such as a year’s supply of beer took place afterwards in the Students Union.
Josh Gilbert, the Football Club President said:
“I really enjoyed organising the match, and a big thank you to the committee for their help beforehand and on the night. It was a great evening and wonderful tribute to Rob. I am really glad to all the Old Boys, Rob’s friends and current students had such a good time.”
Liz Blunt, CLIC Sargent Fundraising Engagement Manger for Hampshire said:
“This is the third time I have had the pleasure of attending the Rob Harris Memorial Match organised by the University of Portsmouth Football Club. Josh and the Football Committee did an excellent job. It was a wonderful evening, and lovely to see so many ex students, friends and family return in memory of Rob.”
