Portsmouth’s Express FM is delighted to welcome two new voices to its weekly programming line-up, as well as a new guitar-based sound for Saturday nights.
Chas Byrne’s Rock Show has been a long-standing fixture on Thursday nights, sharing the latest and greatest in rock music as well as star interviews. The show moves to Saturday nights, in its original time slot of 9pm-11pm, from this weekend (6th July).
As part of these changes, Express Indie with George Wedlake also moves to the earlier time of 7pm every Saturday.
Kartel Derrick, who runs Portsmouth-based APC Records / Visuals, will front The Urban Xperience every Thursday night from 9pm-11pm; showcasing the best in hip-hop, R’n’B, afrobeats and dancehall with guest interviews and a strong focus on emerging local talent.
Jess Hunt has long been involved with supporting local creativity in and around the city and will present Wind Down with Jess Hunt every Sunday night, 9pm-11pm (starting 7th July). The show promises to be a relaxing soundtrack to round off your weekend and help prepare you for the dawn of a new week in Portsmouth.
If you’re a regular listener to Express Breakfast, you will know local wellness coach Maxine Bailey-Green who often co-hosts with Ian James. Maxine will present a monthly hour-long mental health and wellness show, Turn Down The Volume, on the third Sunday of every month from 6pm with a variety of local guests.
Content Manager, Harrison RB, said: "Express FM is always looking for ways to reach new local, often underserved, audiences and offering a more diverse range of programming, peppered with points of difference compared with anything available elsewhere, is the way to do it.
"Jess, Kartel and Maxine have all been no strangers to Express FM listeners, having featured on various shows over the years. They are bursting with enthusiasm and can’t wait to get started with their new shows. I am excited for them and I can’t wait for what they have in store.
"I’d also like to pay tribute to Chas Byrne and George Wedlake, two long-standing members of the Express FM team who have never fallen short of delivering outstanding content and unrivalled knowledge of their respective music genres.
"I know that loyal listeners will look forward to following them both in their new time slots. Saturday night on Express now means air guitars at the ready!"
