University of Portsmouth recognised as world-class in global rating

The University of Portsmouth has been awarded an overall 5 Star rating from QS Stars, which recognises the University as world-class in a broad range of areas, including teaching, employability, internationalisation and inclusiveness.

Portsmouth is one of just 13 universities in the UK to have a QS rating of 5 Star.

With a QS 5 Star rating, the University is able to promote its outstanding academic programmes, industry engagement and graduate employability to prospective students, alumni, and key university partners.

To achieve the overall 5 Star rating, the University received a 5 Star rating in the following categories: Teaching; Employability; Internationalisation; Facilities; Arts & Culture; Inclusiveness; and Specialist Criteria (Accounting and Finance).

The QS Stars university rating system was launched in 2009 as a way to assess global institutions more broadly than is possible through rankings alone. A rating assesses universities on how they perform in several areas (such as academic strength, facilities, social responsibility and inclusiveness), similar to the areas considered in rankings. However, rather than comparing institutions against one another, they are judged on how they perform against a set standard.

Chris Chang Pro Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement and Education Partnerships), said: “These rankings will help us to grow our global reputation, reflecting our focus on excellence in all our activities, including the quality of our global education, cultural diversity in our community and the shared aspirations and strengths of our students and staff. They will also allow us to attract international talent through the recruitment of students and staff who want to be part of our success.

“This success will expand our global impact and enhance our profile around the world, which supports our drive to be one of the top 100 young universities globally.”
